Alexey Borodkin, R&D Engineer at Innolume GmbH, gave a talk during the Integrated Photonics for AI session at LASER World of PHOTONICS 2025, held on June 25 in Munich. The session was part of the Integrated Photonics Applications Stage organized by EPIC (European Photonics Industry Consortium) and brought together experts from Fraunhofer IZM, Jabil, EXFO, Lightium, vario-optics, and other companies. The discussion focused on the integration of photonics into AI systems, including photonic neural networks, optical interfaces, and next-generation components for computing.

In the talk titled “QD Lasers for Hyperscale Datacenters”, Alexey Borodkin discussed the use of Innolume’s QD laser technologies for both scale-up and scale-out of AI clusters. The company’s QD lasers are specifically tailored for high-speed optical links in large-scale datacenter environments, which is essential to support the growing demand for cloud computing and digital infrastructure. QD-based devices from Innolume, given numerous advances including uncooled high-temperature operation and greater reliability, outperform conventional InP lasers in datacom applications. Furthermore, the intrinsic material properties of QDs, which allow optical isolator-free operation, underpin the ease of Innolume QD laser integration with silicon photonics and other platforms — bringing the power efficiency of photonics to a previously unreachable level.
