Optical Coating Engineer (f/m/d)

At Innolume, we develop innovative optoelectronic semiconductor technologies for next-generation communication, sensing and photonic applications. Our expertise ranges from advanced quantum-dot and quantum-well technologies to customized photonic devices tailored to our customers' requirements.

To strengthen our engineering team, we are looking for an experienced optical coating engineer (f/m/d) who is passionate about optical thin-film technologies and turning advanced coating concepts into robust, production-ready processes.

In this role, you will take technical ownership of facet coating equipment and processes—from thin-film design and process development to characterization, troubleshooting and transfer into stable production. You will work hands-on with coating and measurement systems and collaborate closely with production, R&D, quality, and other engineering teams.

Responsibilities
Develop and optimize optical thin-film and facet coating processes for optoelectronic semiconductor devices
Take technical ownership of facet coating equipment, including maintenance coordination, measurement processes and failure analysis
Design and simulate thin-film stacks based on anti-reflection (AR) requirements and the optical properties of coating materials
Measure and characterize thin films using ellipsometry, SEM, profilometry and related metrology methods
Develop specialized passivation and thin-film coating concepts for different laser diode facets
Apply structured experimentation and statistical process control (SPC) to improve process capability, quality and yield
Improve coating and stacking processes, including related hardware and software
Transfer new coating processes and technologies from development into stable production
Analyze technical failures, troubleshoot complex process and equipment issues and implement sustainable solutions
Collaborate closely with Production, R&D, Quality, IT and other engineering teams
Prepare technical and process documentation, including development plans, engineering reports, SOPs and work instructions
Train and support production teams on assigned equipment and processes
Support engineering changes, deviation processes, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives
Ensure compliance with applicable EHS requirements and company standards
requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree in optics, physics, materials science, optical engineering, or a related technical field
Professional hands-on experience in optical thin-film coating and related process engineering
Strong knowledge of optical coating design, thin-film stacks and anti-reflection coating concepts
Experience with coating equipment, vacuum systems and thin-film measurement or characterization tools
Hands-on experience with ellipsometry and other relevant metrology methods
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to independently manage technical projects while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Willingness to work closely with production teams and provide hands-on on-site support
Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken
Experience with thin-film design and simulation software, preferably Macleod
Experience with facet coating or passivation processes for laser diodes or other optoelectronic devices
Knowledge of SPC, Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical data analysis
Experience with SEM, profilometry and advanced thin-film characterization
Experience improving or automating coating and stacking equipment, including related hardware and software
Experience transferring engineering processes into volume production
German language skills are an advantage

In this role, you will take ownership of optical assembly and packaging processes—from concept and process development to industrialization and continuous improvement. You will work hands-on with advanced optical components and assembly technologies and collaborate closely with production, R&D and quality.

Responsibilities

Hands-on experience with optical alignment, coupling and assembly technologies
Experience with laser sources, photodetectors and optical components such as lensed fibers, collimators or micro-optics
Experience with advanced assembly equipment and automated motion or positioning systems
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to independently manage technical projects while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken
Experience with semiconductor back-end or photonic device manufacturing
Experience with wire bonding, die bonding, epoxy bonding or eutectic bonding
Knowledge of SPC, Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical data analysis
Programming experience with Python and/or LabVIEW
Experience with 3D CAD and technical drawings, preferably SolidWorks
Experience transferring engineering processes into volume production

To strengthen our team, we are looking for an experienced Software Engineer (f/m/d) who will work across our locations in Eindhoven and Dortmund and is comfortable traveling regularly between both sites.

In this role, you will modernize our software landscape, develop scalable applications, and connect software with laboratory and manufacturing equipment. Your work will directly support the development and production of cutting-edge photonic semiconductor devices while helping shape the next generation of our digital engineering environment.

Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain software for automated measurement, equipment control and data acquisition
Build scalable desktop applications and software architectures for engineering and manufacturing
Modernise legacy software applications and migrate existing LabVIEW solutions to sustainable software platforms
Integrate laboratory instruments, manufacturing equipment, databases, MES and ERP systems
Develop reliable software interfaces and efficient data pipelines
Improve software quality, maintainability and performance using modern engineering principles
Troubleshoot complex software-hardware interactions in close collaboration with engineering teams
Work closely with Production, Process Engineering, Quality and IT to deliver reliable software solutions
Contribute to the digital transformation of semiconductor manufacturing
requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering or a related technical field
Several years of professional software development experience
Strong programming skills in Python and/or C# (C++ is an advantage)
Solid understanding of software architecture, object-orientated programming and modern software engineering principles
Experience developing desktop applications
Experience with SQL databases and data management
Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development workflows
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Fluent English language skills (spoken and written)
