At Innolume, we specialize in GaAs Quantum Well and Quantum Dot diode lasers across a wavelength spectrum from 780 nm to 1350 nm, leveraging our expertise in a wide array of devices: from high power Broad Area and Single Mode Fabry Perot lasers to DFB lasers, SOAs, BOAs, Comb-lasers, ultra-low noise WDM SOA, and Gain chips.
Comprehensive In-House Capabilities
Innolume is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including two industrial epitaxial reactors and advanced wafer processing capabilities. We manage every stage of development and production internally, from initial epitaxial and chip layout design to fiber pigtailed module fabrication, ensuring rigorous testing at each step. This integrated approach allows us to maintain stringent quality control standards while maximizing efficiency. Our dedication to conducting fundamental studies, coupled with our intuitive grasp of physics and advanced measurement equipment, ensures that we maintain leadership in photonics innovation.
Pioneering Heritage and Expert Team
Innolume’s roots trace back to the laboratory of Nobel laureate Prof. Zhores Alferov, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000 for his groundbreaking contributions to semiconductor technology, including the invention of the Double Heterostructure and the first diode laser operating at room temperature. Our team has long been recognized as a global leader in the research and development of semiconductor Quantum Dot technology, pioneering its application in commercial settings. Back in 2007, the Innolume team demonstrated the first QD broadband and comb lasers (A. Kovsh et al., Optics Letters, Apr 2007; A. Gubenko et al., Electronics Letters, Dec 2007). In 2020, Innolume won the SPIE Prism Award for its temperature independent InAs/GaAs QD CW DFB laser. Together, our team boasts over two centuries of collective man-years of experience in photonics, with more than 20 experts holding PhD degrees.
Proven Excellence in Collaboration
Innolume has a proven track record of successful NRE-based Joint Development Projects with partners ranging from small startups to industry giants. Our commitment is to deliver innovative solutions that consistently exceed expectations. You tell us the performance requirements for your application, and we'll determine feasibility and create the optimal solution.
QD Technology as an Emerging Platform for Cloud Networking and AI Clusters
Advantages of O-band Quantum Dot lasers compared to traditional InP Quantum Well devices:
- Ease of integration: O-band QD lasers exhibit much lower sensitivity to back reflection, eliminating the need for an optical isolator between the laser and the PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit), thereby simplifying integration.
- Efficient high-power operation at elevated temperatures: QD gain mediums enable efficient operation at higher temperatures without the need for cooling, thereby significantly reducing the overall power consumption of Cloud Networking systems.
- Record-low Relative Intensity Noise (RIN): O-band QD DFB lasers achieve exceptionally low RIN, crucial for future 224 Gbps+ PAM4 modulation formats.
- Immunity to major failure mechanisms: Unlike QW lasers, QD lasers are less prone to optical mirror damage and dislocation propagation, enhancing reliability crucial for optical networks and AI clusters.
- Lower manufacturing cost at high volume: Larger GaAs wafer sizes (6- and 8-inch) and lower substrate costs contribute to reduced manufacturing expenses compared to InP-based devices. Additionally, GaAs material is less fragile than InP, further reducing handling challenges.
- Projected higher laser array yield: Innolume’s simplified GaAs DFB laser fabrication process, which excludes overgrowth steps, is expected to increase laser array yield, further optimizing production efficiency.
These advantages position QD lasers as a compelling choice for Cloud Networking and AI clusters that require lasers with extended reliability, robust performance, efficiency at high temperatures, and cost-effectiveness.
