Professor Dieter Bimberg Delivers Lecture to the Innolume Team
On December 16, Innolume was honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Dieter Bimberg, one of the most prominent scientists in the field of semiconductors and photonics (h-index: 118).

Professor Bimberg’s visit holds particular significance for Innolume. The technological foundation of the company originates from the long-standing scientific collaboration between the Institute of Solid State Physics at the Technical University of Berlin, which he chaired, and the laboratory of Nobel Laureate (2000) Prof. Zhores Alferov. Innolume was founded in 2003 as a spin-off from Prof. Alferov’s laboratory.

In 1994, Professor Bimberg’s team demonstrated the world’s first Quantum Dot laser, using epitaxial structures grown at Prof. Alferov’s laboratory, an achievement that marked the starting point of QD laser technology and laid the groundwork for its subsequent development.
During the meeting, Professor Bimberg shared not only insights into his current research but also his personal perspective on the evolution of QD lasers and the early stages of international scientific cooperation that played a decisive role in shaping modern photonics.

The lecture provided a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange, discussion of advanced technological approaches, and reflection on the scientific context behind the solutions embedded in Innolume’s products today.
