WDM SOA optimized for data transmission
We have developed semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) optimized for the data stream amplification in the modern WDM optical links. It provide low noise figure, below 5 dB, and the highest on the market saturation output power exceeding 20 dBm, these are the key SOA parameters for the data transmission.
We perform comprehensive experimental investigation using state of the art optical transceivers and measure bit error rate (BER) of the data stream transmitted through SOA for different data rates, optical powers, number of channels and for PAM4 and NRZ modulation formats. We show that the developed SOA keeps BER for PAM4 format well below FEC limits for subterabit data rates and operates error-free for NRZ.
